Speaking of wonderful little things that you hear of, a large group of volunteers – The fundraisers, held an exciting Bargain Basement Sale at the Lahore Grande. Given how serious we make everything in this country it was refreshing to see a fun event working towards funds generation for worthy causes.
All proceeds raised from the sale of these items were donated to three charities: Bali Memorial Trust for flood rehabilitation work in Jhang, where they are rebuilding the homes of 500 families displaced in the recent floods; Pink Ribbon Pakistan for setting up breast cancer testing centres across Pakistan, and finally Rising Stars Foundation (formerly known as Pakistan Rising) for their schools in the remote areas of Swat where they are educating over 1, 200 impoverished children.
The Fundraisers BBS included, for the first time, a special auction in which an array of gorgeous items were auctioned. These included an exquisite Mughal pendant by Amber Sami, White by Mehar’s signature patchwork chair, a quirky hand embroidered rope handle leather tote by Polly & Me, a jacket by Farida Hassan and lastly a stunning Gustav Klimt inspired hand-embellished evening jacket from Studio S by Seher Tareen.
Treat of treats was Fawad Khan, who donated his time and came with his wife to not only support the caused but also personally signed T shirts for sale (We hear the Tees went for as much as PKR 15k). Everyone seems to have had a mighty wonderful time getting their pictures taken with the celebrity of the moment.
