A friend once remarked, in other parts of the world, fashionistas make a conscious effort to look different. In Pakistan, we make a conscious effort to look the same. And that opened our eyes to thousands of similar Celine bags, Monogrammed Everything, Red/Organce Manicures (which we are also guilty of), the lengths of the shirts, the cigarette pants and well long story short the entire Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad looking pretty much the same. Do you feel there aren’t enough who dare to be different?
While you could very well style Ivory Emporium ‘s scarves to look like all the other ladies in town, one thing is for sure, no one else will own a similar scarf. Mehreen Tanvir, the owner is a collector and has been procuring high end designer scarves for almost a decade from trusted sources the world over. The debut collection called “Luxe en Soie ” includes iconic pieces from the design houses of Hermès, Chanel, Salvatore Ferragamo, Emilio Pucci, Etro, Celine, Givenchy, Versace, Chopard, Cartier, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Bvlgari, Fendi, Roberto Cavalli, Trussardi, Liberty of London, and Gucci .
The exhibition date and venue will be announced soon but we know it’s sometime end of this month. Speaking of the exhibition, Mehreen commented, ‘We opted to do our debut collection in scarves as they are one of the most versatile accessory, are relatively affordable say compared to say a designer handbag. Finally, I personally was very disturbed by the omnipresent fake designer shawls that everyone proudly sports in Lahore.’
Here is to hoping that these scarves get their individual love and attention and aren’t lost in a frenzy of everything screaming designer on one beautiful but severely gora-fied face. Fashionistas take note.
