Saira Shakira, a brand that recently debuted at the PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week, has created a certain dramatic aura around itself. Last year, we saw them present their collection ‘A Mid Summer’s Night Dream’ inspired by Shakespeare which was well received on the platform. Developing on the same ideology at the PFDC Swarovski Crystal Couturiers 2015, the brand will be showcasing their collection ‘Once Upon a Time’.
As fancy as the name sounds, the collection will be equally elaborate and will illustrate the conflict that was seen during the First World War. It will seek to reflect austerity as the fashion norm and showcasing androgynous outfits for women. Ultimately, you can expect to ball gowns, voluminous skirts leading up to suits and trousers in the spirit of representing liberation. This one will be an interesting blend of feminism, story-telling, history and fashion on the ramp. We for one are definitely looking forward to it.
As you may already know Saira and Shakira are the incredibly talented designers behind this label .According to them, “It is a collection that aspires to tell the story of fashion through the ages. The capsule collection touches upon history’s most significant periods to illustrate the changing sartorial needs and desires of women as they evolved with the times. A good story needs to hold its audience captive from the very first moment; hence ours begins with the drama of the Renaissance period. Paying ode to the opulence and excess of that time, the first segment of the collection comprises ornate ball gowns and voluminous skirts.”
According to Saira Shakira. “Our story has a happy ending, as we take inspiration from the Art Deco movement of the ‘30s. Exuberance and modernism combine in an influence that can be traced forward to many of the trends that define fashion in the modern age.”
