ONION HAIR OIL FOR EASY HAIR GROWTH

December 20, 2022

There is proven evidence that onion works best for hair if you want to target specific hair problems.

Onions are enriched with nutrients like vitamin C, vitamin B9 (folate), vitamin B6, potassium and numerous other compounds, and have therefore been associated with stronger hair roots, faster hair growth and an overall improved appearance of your locks!

When used in the form of an oil, this potent remedy can serve as a strong anti-inflammatory, fungicidal, antioxidant and antibacterial treatment for your scalp and hair. Elaborating further on this, here is everything you need to know about using onion oil for the hair.

WHAT YOU NEED

  • 2 Onions
  • 2 tbsp Fenugreek seeds (methi dana)
  • 2 tbsp Nigella seeds (kalonji)
  • 200 ml Coconut oil

Here’s a step by step mini guide on how to make onion hair oil at home.

STEP 1

In a blender jar, add fenugreek seeds and nigella seeds. Grind to crush them coarsely.

STEP 2

Now roughly chop the onions in cubes. Add the onion to the same blender and grind along with the crushed seeds

STEP 3

Now add about 50 ml of coconut oil in the blender and grind again. Again add 50 ml of more oil and grind to form a paste-like mixture

STEP 4

Take a karahi with deep bottom and heat about 50 ml of coconut oil in it. Add the onion paste into it and mix well. Once it heats up well, you will see bubbles forming on the top

STEP 5

Cook the mixture and keep stirring till the color changes from grey to black. And once the oil starts floating on the top, your onion oil is ready

STEP 6

Let the onion oil cool down and then strain it through a sieve into a bowl or add it directly in a bottle and store it

YOUR ONION OIL IS READY TO BE USED

Your onion oil is ready. Apply it on the scalp and leave it for 2-3 hours and then wash off with mild shampoo and luke warm water.

Before you apply onion oil on your hair, take these pointers into consideration

  • Onion oil has a deeply pungent smell and if you are too sensitive, add a few drops of any fragrant essential oil to mask it.
  • Do not overdo onion oil massage on your scalp, as it has been shown to cause some amount of inflammation, especially if you have the habit of scratching your head.
  • Homemade onion oil may still have some of its eye-tearing effects, so make sure you are only using the recommended amount.
  • Before using onion oil for the hair, make sure you are not allergic to it. Do a patch test on your inner arm 24-hours prior to using it on your hair and scalp.
  • If you have sensitive skin, avoid leaving the oil on your scalp for a long time. A hair oiling session with gentle massage and 3-4 hours of masking should be all that you subject your sensitive scalp to.
