8 WORST SKINCARE ADVICE THAT YOU SHOULD IGNORE!

November 1, 2022

The internet has all the updates on the best and worst skincare advice for you to follow up or abolish any beauty or skincare trends.

With social media and so many advocates on promoting the right kind of advice, people have become aware. But a lot of misleading skincare advice is toying with people’s minds.

So we’re sharing the 8 worst skincare advice that you need to ignore right now!

MAYONNAISE CAN WORK AS A FACE MASK

Mayonnaise works best with burgers and french fries, ladies! “The thickness and excessive oils in this home remedy can clog pores and cause breakouts. It can also lead to the overgrowth of skin bacteria which is another cause of acne,” because the fat and oils will trap sebum in your skin and you’ll have some unwanted friends to meet!

THE MORE YOU SCRUB YOUR FACE, THE CLEARER YOUR SKIN SHALL BE

Acne prone skin should be kept clean and clearer from excessive oils because heavy makeup or bacteria that could inflame your sensitive pores. But if you scrub too hard or too often, you could be making your breakouts worse. Instead of doing a deep cleanse on the daily, using a gentle cleanser to wash your face, along with a makeup remover to ensure every last bit of mascara, foundation and blush is off your face.

TOOTHPASTE HELPS ELIMINATE PIMPLES

You may have heard that dabbing toothpaste on your zit will heal it and while it maybe true that it does shrink in size due to the presence of some active ingredients, honestly IT ISN’T WORTH THE RISK! Here’s why!

ACNE ONLY EFFECTS TEENAGERS

Teen acne and adult acne are 2 different things. They might be similar but have different causes and treatments like hormonal fluctuations, genetics, puberty, and certain foods.

MOISTURIZER MAKES YOUR SKIN GREASY

I think it’s time we banished the myth that moisturizers make your skin greasy and super oily. In fact when you have acne and are using topicals like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide that can help your skin retain the moisture and prevent it from drying out.

SUNSCREEN SHOULD ONLY BE WORN OUTDOORS

Even though the exposure of sun is low when you’re indoors, however if you are spending a lot of time by a window with direct sunlight you might want to think about sun protection.

IF IT BURNS, MEANS IT’S WORKING

General skincare of acne shouldn’t sting at all if its followed by tingling and redness. Whether it’s simple irritation or an allergic reaction, these symptoms can lead to inflammation, peeling, and lasting sensitivity that can damage your skin and cause more breakouts if you aren’t careful.

POPPING MAKES YOUR PIMPLES HEAL FASTER

Popping any kind of acne can potentially make it worse, cause skin damage, and leave a scar, and doesn’t resolve acne. But if you do pop it, then the aftermath requires care like:

  1. keep the area clean
  2. moisturize
  3. avoid picking on it
  4. apply spot treatments
  5. wear sunscreen
