TFPW DAY 3 RECAP

April 3, 2015

If our previous posts have been any indicator, it is evident that Fashion Pakistan Week 2015 has been nothing short of a roller coaster ride. The bipolarity of the highs and lows of the week are welcome albeit inherently tiring. Day 1 was dull, Day 2 better. Meanwhile, at the TFPW Day 3 the first half mostly fell flat on its face while the second half of the show aimed to redeem the night.

The showcase began with the highlight collection of the night – Body Focus Museum by Imaan who unveiled her collection titled ‘Sartorial Philology and the New Nomads’ featuring a myriad of white ethereal outfits blending the east with the west and depicting an air of mysticism. The color palate included tan and turmeric tones with a hint of black. In the spotlight were the accessories and the exquisite styling that complemented the collection and brought it together beautifully.

The only redeeming part about Levi’s presentation was the star power hauled in by the show stopper Wasim Akram. The show itself was at best a walking version of the in-store catalogue and the styling did nothing to save the day.

Despite shimmering animals and shiny fabric, Somal Halepoto’s collection lacked the spark one hoped to see given the brand has now been around for over 5 years and consistently showcasing at fashion weeks.

YBQ started the second half with the agenda to redeem the day. Drawing inspiration from Lal Shahbaz Qalandar, Shah Abdul Latif Bhattai, and Sachal Sarmast the presentation was coherent in theme and visually powerful. The drama one had missed in most other collections came to life as model after model walked out in pure red. Rubya Chaudhry in showstopping platform boots and HSY closed the show for the brand.

After Nubain and Wardha Saleem’s strong presentation for Jafferjee’s the day before, expectations were incredibly from Wardha for her own collection. A victim of the standard set by her own self, the collection failed to match the impact created by her for Jafferjees. The pastel colour palette was dull however, what she lacked in impact Wardah made up in range by showcasing silhouettes like saris, skirts, jackets, silk tunics, gowns, capes and more.

HSY’s menswear collection featured dapper, well-tailored suits complete with signature HSY theatrics as Hira Tareen DJ-ed live on stage looking sharp in an HSY suit.

Sania Maskatiya took the stage once again on as she showcased her collaboration with Al-Karam. The ensembles in the collection fused the luxury pret silhouettes with Lawn fabric and presented this done to death fabric in a new light. At the end of the day however, the question generally loomed once again as it did the in the days before – Do lawns belong in fashion weeks or not?

Inaaya also fell victim to standard it has consistently set despite being a newer and smaller brand. The collection missed the freshness that has become hallmark of Inaaya’s presentations and left one reminiscing of the debut collection that had the fashion world talking.

The roller coaster that is Fashion Pakistan Week 2015 is coming to an end tonight in the last day of fashion, glamor and drama. Looking forward to Zara Shahjahan, Deepak Perwani (we hear Pooja Bhatt is walking the ramp as the showstopper tonight!), and Sonya Battla. Here is to hoping that tonight’s showcase will leave us wanting more.
