BREAKING DOWN 3 WEIGHT LOSS MYTHS BEFORE THE WEDDING SEASON

We’re getting uncomfortably close to the wedding season. As soon as the temperature starts dropping, the wedding invites start floating in and you’re left wondering how you can fit into last year’s outfits or if you’re going to have to get another one made. And with that anxiety begins a commitment to new fad diets and fitness regimes.

Trying to look your best for the shaadi season is alright… going through extreme diet and exercise plans 2 weeks before the date is not. We’re here to bust the biggest weight loss myths so you can look fab in the easiest, healthiest way possible.

MYTH #1: ALL CALORIES ARE CREATED EQUAL

This is one of the biggest myths I keep on hearing from people around me. It is easy to think of weight loss as calories in versus calories out but it is a bit more complicated than that. Different calorie sources have a different effect on your body. Calories from protein and carbs will energize you differently that calories from fat. So make sure you’re balancing your diet!

MYTH #2: YOUR WEIGHT MUST ALWAYS DROP ON THE SCALE

This is not necessarily true! Weight loss and fat loss are not the same thing. Through diet and exercise, you may be losing a lot on the scale, but it would not necessarily translate on the scale. This is because you’re simultaneously also toning your muscles, which are helping you look toned and fit!

MYTH #3: YOU ONLY NEED CARDIO TO LOSE WEIGHT

Cardio means you’re using your body’s energy reserves, that much is true. Whether those reserves are in the form of fat or protein, it doesn’t matter. Cardio just needs energy. However, strength training increases your body’s ability to lose fat! Contrary to what people think (that weight training makes you bulky), if you’re not getting the ideal shape, chances are there isn’t enough strength training in your routine.

So as you prepare for the onslaught of the shadi season where you have multiple appearances to make, ensure that you are taking care of yourself. You should feel as fabulous as you look and the rest won’t matter!
