The next time you’re heading out for vacay or even a fun and adventurous road trip, you ought to pack the right essentials to keep your teeth clean, breath fresh and gums healthy aka your oral hygiene in check!
BUT the good news is that even with a hectic lifestyle you can still keep your teeth healthy and clean.
Here are some easy ways you can take care of your teeth (and keep your breath fresh) and maintain oral hygiene while you’re busy traveling for work or pleasure.
Go Travel Size
Whether you’re on a flight, taking the bus, a train or even with a group of friends in the car, a quick brush is always in order. DID YOU KNOW travel-sized toothbrushes, toothpastes and floss are readily available so you can carry in your bag, purse or car. This makes it easy to take a quick moment to brush your teeth before the next stop over.
So you couldn’t find a travel-sized dental kit, then the easiest way is to rinse your mouth with clean water. Simply swish as if you were using mouthwash so any stubborn food particles in your mouth can be eliminated. You’ll stay hydrated while helping your mouth stay clean between meals.
Keep Sugar-Free Gum or Mint
Keep your mouth as clean as possible, in between brushing and flossing, with some mint, sugar-free gum or xylitol mint (xylitol stimulates saliva flow, which will help cleanse your teeth).
Use Tooth Picks
I personally think that tooth picks are a great way to keep your teeth clean. We all have them at home any way, or you can get a small pack from the departmental store.
Pack Healthy Snacks
You may want to avoid indulging in desserts, sticky foods or sugary drinks while you’re away, but try and avoid the temptation each day on vacation and have healthy snacks or fruits.
Protect Your Tooth Brush
While you’re traveling, cover the head of the toothbrush to avoid any bacteria that might be picked up in your luggage. Toothbrush covers are available that have holes for ventilation and are anti-bacterial, which are a good solution to keeping your toothbrush clean. Always let the bristles of your toothbrush dry between brushing.
And remember to brush your teeth after eating. If you can’t, then rinse your mouth with water after eating something sweet. You can also try eating a raw veggie or fibrous fruit (e.g., apple with the peel, after washing, of course) to help get rid of food from your mouth.
