CHILDREN’S BOOKS TO LEARN ABOUT RAMADAN

It’s never too late to read children’s books to learn about Ramadan and spread the meaningful message instilled by our peaceful religion. These books share important values, the significance of Islamic festivities and why Muslims all around the world celebrate Ramadan.

Children’s books to learn about Ramadan are not just wonderful additions to every kid’s home library but we feel they make the perfect gifts also to instill the love in the messages that Ramadan and all Islamic traditions hold.

The White Nights of Ramadan by Maha Addasi

This book is about a little girl named Noor who learns about how Ramadan is not just a day or a month about simple fun, but also how blessed it is. So she learns the importance of spending time with her family and the need to give/offer to the needy and poor as much as you can.

The White Nights of Ramadan is a wonderful book for children between the ages of 5-10 years and teaches our children the value of helping those who are in need and to never look down upon them.

Night of the Moon: A Muslim Holiday Story by Hena Khan

Since the Islam follows a lunar calendar, meaning that the sighting of a new means a new month. Therefore little Yasmin learns that the new moon has brought upon the holy month of Ramadan and it’s countless blessings with shared family time, food and excitement. Since the muslim community celebrates Ramadan for 30 days every year so Yasmin finds it so exciting to share her knowledge about Ramadan at her school and how auspicious it is.

So Raihanna is a 6 year old lively girl who learns about this beautiful month with her family and friends, and being grateful for what she has been given by helping the needy.

Raihanna’s First Time Fasting is a spirited book that celebrate the true essence of Ramadan.

Lailah’s Lunchbox: A Ramadan Story by Reem Faruqi

Lailah’s Lunchbox: A Ramadan Story is an interesting and thoughtful box for ages 5-7  years because it shows the life of a young girl, Lailah who lives in a foreign land. So during the month of Ramadan she has to fast however she is hesitant about explaining to her class mates what Ramadan means to the Muslim community and why they fast. So at lunch time she is afraid to go the cafeteria so she gets help from her school Librarian.

Why this book is a good addition because it brings together children from different backgrounds; Muslims and non Muslims who can learn and appreciate each others religious differences.

It’s Ramadan: Curious George by Hena Khan

It’s Ramadan: Curious George is a special book for children who are learning about Ramadan for the first time as well as those who are celebrating it. George and Kareem are friends and get to enjoy the blessings at Iftar. So together the boys make gift baskets to give the needy and sight the new moon to join the Eid festivities.

So this book takes it’s readers on two journey of two very celebrated religious festivals in Islam: Ramadan and Eid.
