DIY FACE MASKS FOR DRY SKIN

May 26, 2022

We’ve been battling with this for as long as we can remember and know that dry skin can make you look dull, worn out, and you end up looking older than your age, which is an awful feeling. In fact, excessive dryness can cause the skin to itch if it’s left unchecked, and therefore, can lead to other severe skin conditions such as eczema or dermatitis. So, a word of advice? Don’t just sit around and wait for a miracle to happen, know when to visit your dermatologist!

Besides naturally, skin dryness occurs when your skin is unable to retain any moisture, especially in winters it becomes flaky since there is very less moisture in the air. And on top of that, the long hot showers as amazing as they sound, not using a good moisturizer afterwards, or the use of a harsh cosmetic product can also lead to a dry skin spell, or allergies.

Although there are several commercial products in the market to combat dry skin, these tried and tested DIY Face Masks or desi totkas will help you to sooth and nourish your dry skin.

BANANA FACE MASK

Banana is a nutritious tropical fruit with potassium and vitamin E & C that helps to lock skin moisture and replenish it. Yogurt further soothes and nourishes your irritated skin. So, you’ll need 2 mashed bananas, 1 tbsp raw honey and ¼ of unsweetened yogurt. Mix it well and leave it on for 20 minutes. Continue with this regime 2-3 times a week and you’ll be saying goodbye to dry skin in no time.

EGG AND OLIVE OIL FACE MASK

The egg yolk has extra nutrients when it’s applied on your skin directly, but adding a little bit of olive oil will be a double treat for your skin because olive oil also contains vitamin E for greater elasticity. So, you’ll need 1 egg yolk, 1 tbsp olive oil and ½ cup mashed banana and mix these ingredients well. Apply it on your skin for 15 minutes and let it dry. Best is to use this face mask one or two times a week depending on the how your skin feels.

OATMEAL FACE MASK

Oatmeal has a lot of fiber and anti-inflammatory properties, and it retains the moisture in the skin. So the following mask is super effective to nourish your dry skin.

Mix together oats, lemon juice and honey. Apply to face. Rinse with warm water. VOILA!

CUCUMBER AND ALOE MASK

A hydrating mask can nourish your skin and alleviate any itching / dullness. So blend the cucumber and combine with the aloe vera gel (direct from the plant). Gently massage the paste over your face and let it sit for 30 minutes and then wash off with water.

ROSE AND YOGURT FACE MASK

A simple yogurt face mask applied on your face 2-3 times a week can be give you the results you want. Plus yogurt has so many benefits, it fights acne, pigmentation, reduces dullness and moisturizers. Furthermore, a rose and yogurt face mask has multiple benefits.

  1. Crush six or seven rose petals in a mixing bowl.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons rosewater and let sit for two minutes so the water can pull all the healthy vitamins and minerals from the rose petals.
  3. Measure in 1 tablespoon yogurt.
  4. Mix well and let the ingredients sit for two minutes.
  5. Pour in 1 teaspoon honey.
  6. Stir until ingredients are evenly distributed.
  7. You can either leave the petals in the mixture or remove them. Most of the nutrients have been removed, so they’re just for decoration at this point.
